Cops: Man Was Battered For Belching
Victim burped, then got walloped by "upset" suspect
DECEMBER 22--A North Carolina man was assaulted for burping, police report.
Cops say Noe Perez, 43, was waiting for an order he placed Wednesday evening at meat market in High Point when he belched, according to an incident report.
The burping "upset" a male suspect who was inside the Hispanic Meat Market at the time, reported Officer Jerry Trew.
When Perez subsequently exited the business with a female companion, the suspect “was outside with three other Hispanic males.”
The suspect punched Perez in the face and kicked him in the hand. The assailant and his associates then got into a car and left the scene.
Perez, a self-employed construction worker who lives in nearby Asheboro, suffered a contusion over his left eye, but declined a police offer of medical assistance.
The suspect remains at large and the matter--categorized as a misdemeanor assault--remains open, according to High Point Police Department records. (2 pages)
